AI Policy

AJNS recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including generative AI systems and large language models (LLMs), are increasingly used in academic research and publishing. While these tools may assist with certain tasks, their use must be consistent with the principles of academic integrity, transparency, accountability, and confidentiality.

This policy outlines how AI tools may be used by authors, reviewers, editors, and the journal.

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted tools for language editing, grammar correction, formatting, or improving the readability of a manuscript. When generative AI has been used for purposes beyond routine language assistance, authors must clearly disclose its use within the manuscript, identifying both the tool and the manner in which it was used.

Authors remain fully responsible for every aspect of their submission, including the accuracy of information, originality of the work, proper citation of sources, and compliance with ethical standards. AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot accept responsibility for published work or satisfy established authorship requirements. Material produced by AI should not be cited as a primary scholarly source.

Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers are required to maintain the confidentiality of all manuscripts received for evaluation. Manuscript files or their contents must not be uploaded to generative AI systems or similar services, as doing so may compromise confidentiality and affect the integrity of the review process.

Reviewers may use limited AI-based language editing tools to improve the wording of their reports only when no confidential manuscript content is disclosed. The review, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations must always represent the reviewer's own independent academic judgment.

Use of AI by Editors

Editorial decisions must be based on expert evaluation and the established peer review process. Editors should not rely on generative AI systems to determine whether a manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected.

AI applications may be used to assist with administrative and technical tasks, including similarity checking, plagiarism detection, workflow management, or identifying suitable reviewers. The use of such tools must always remain subject to editorial oversight and verification.

Use of AI by the Journal

The journal may employ AI-supported technologies to assist with routine editorial activities, such as preliminary manuscript screening, similarity analysis, and the identification of potential publication ethics concerns. These tools are intended to support, not replace, editorial decision-making.

Any information generated by AI systems is reviewed by editors before action is taken. Responsibility for all editorial and publication decisions remains entirely with the journal's editorial team.

Oversight and Responsibility

All AI-assisted activities must remain under appropriate human supervision. Authors, reviewers, and editors are responsible for ensuring that AI tools are used ethically, transparently, and in accordance with the journal's publication policies.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in editorial action, including rejection of a manuscript, requests for correction, retraction of published articles, or other measures considered appropriate under the journal's publication ethics policies.
